The last time I mounted tires nearly this wide was on Fred’s Shelby Mustang. Interestingly, today’s mission would be the “JDM equivalent” of the last one. Just like last time, I had some serious rubber to be mounted to a set of rare and expensive wheels in gloss black. But instead of Forgeline wheels and Goodyear tires going on a Mustang, it was an awesome set of Nismo LMGT4 wheels and Toyo R888 tires mounting to a Nissan Skyline.
Jason rolled this beefy set of 295/30/18s into the warehouse, along with the Nismo wheels in 18×10.5, which were almost in brand new condition. I don’t get to see these setups too often, but it’s always a welcome sight. You know they’re home to a serious machine.
The setup was so wide, and yet it only needed a few weights to be balanced. Everything here was completed smoothly. But alas, I only got to see the wheels and tires in person and not the car, since the Skyline decided to wait at home for its new shoes.
Eventually, the Nismo wheels made their way to Jason’s Skyline. Here’s how it looks with the new setup. Although it’s a bit hard to see because of the color and lighting, you can kinda tell — what looked quite large on the tire machines ended up matching perfectly with the size of the R33. I wonder what sort of antics this car is up to now…
